Lac Seul is a huge reservoir in northwestern Ontario, stretching from Ear Falls toward Sioux Lookout. It's remote and quiet in winter, and the trips here tend to be lodge stays rather than day huts.

A handful of lodges stay open for winter guests. Expect a cabin to sleep in, snow machine access to the fishing, and a guide who knows which reefs and points are holding fish that week. Some lodges also cover nearby Abram, Pelican, and Minnitaki lakes.

Walleye and northern pike are the main targets, with perch around and lake trout in some of the connected lakes.

Before you go

Plan for real winter driving and confirm the access road and pickup details with the lodge before you leave. You'll need an Ontario fishing licence and Outdoors Card, and you should check the current zone regulations for limits and seasons.
