Lake Nipigon is the largest lake entirely inside Ontario, north of Lake Superior. In winter it's lake trout country, with walleye, pike, and whitefish too, and it's a long way from anywhere busy.

Outfitters here run guided days, multi-night cabin packages, and some winter camping trips out of Nipigon, Beardmore, Jellicoe, and Black Sturgeon. Several operators near Nipigon also fish Nipigon Bay and the Lake Superior shoreline, which is a different trip with different conditions. Each listing says where they actually fish.

Lake trout seasons here are set by zone and can open later than other species, so check the current Ontario regulations before you lock in dates. Big water like this freezes unevenly. Book with someone who's on it every week.
